There will be a day by Jeremy Camp

I try to hold on to this world with everything I have
But I feel the weight of what it brings
and the hurt that tries to grab
The many trials that seem to never end,
His word declares this truth,
that we will enter in this rest with wonders anew

Chorus:
But I hold on to this hope
and the promise that He brings
That there will be a place with no more suffering

There will be a day with no more tears,
no more pain, and no more fears
There will be a day
when the burdens of this place,
will be no more,
we’ll see Jesus face to face
But until that day,
we’ll hold on to you always

I know the journey seems so long
You feel you’re walking on your own
But there has never been a step
Where you’ve walked out all alone

Troubled soul don’t lose your heart
Cause joy and peace he brings
And the beauty that’s in store
Outweighs the hurt of life’s sting

(Chorus)

Bridge:
I can’t wait until that day
where the very one I’ve lived for always
will wipe away the sorrow that I’ve faced
To touch the scars that rescued me
from a life of shame and misery

this is why this is why I sing

We Wear the Mask by Paul Laurence Dunbar

We wear the mask that grins and lies,
It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,—
This debt we pay to human guile;
With torn and bleeding hearts we smile,
And mouth with myriad subtleties.

Why should the world be over-wise,
In counting all our tears and sighs?
Nay, let them only see us, while
We wear the mask.

We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries
To thee from tortured souls arise.
We sing, but oh the clay is vile
Beneath our feet, and long the mile;
But let the world dream otherwise,
We wear the mask!

Humble Me by Norah Jones

Went out on a limb
Broke down at the side of the road
Gone too far
Stranded at the outskirts and the sun’s creepin’ up

Baby’s in the backseat

Dreamin’ of better days
When it’s all gone away?
Baby I didn’t mean to hurt you
Truth spoke in whispers will tear you apart
It never rains when you want it to
No matter how hard you resist it

You humble me Lord
I’m on my knees empty
You humble me Lord
So please, please, please forgive me
You humble me Lord
I see you all the time
When she asks about her daddy
I never know what to say

I don’t want to call you but you’re all I have to turn to
Still fast asleep
You humble me Lord
Heard you kicked the bottle
And you helped build the church
You carry an honest wage
Is it true you have someone keeping you company?
What do you say
Truth spoke in whispers will tear you apart
Baby Teresa she’s got your eyes
No matter how hard you resist it

You humble me Lord
What do you say
You humble me Lord
You humble me Lord
So, please, please, forgive me
You humble me
You humble me Lord
It never rains when you want it to
I’m on my knees empty
Baby I didn’t mean to hurt you
When it’s all gone away?

Untitled

Out in the cold I stand,
Looking on at the world sitting tight,
With its people in their nice little worlds,
And the friends who don’t even know me.
It really makes no difference to their world where I am.
If I’m there, it keeps going.
If I’m not, it goes on.
While I walk around, wandering, wondering,
My mind a mass of mixed-up machinery,
Clashing with conflicts and unanswered questions.
I don’t ask the world if it is real-
It sits up there on its foundations,
Secure, concrete, hard, stone and real.
But maybe I’m not real
Or if I am, maybe I shouldn’t be.
They answer, ‘Smile, God loves you’,
But I can’t smile.
I’m numbed by cold inside and out.
Even the heat in the square brick buildings
Would only warm my body, nothing else.
I’m alone in a world full of people,
Apart, shut up inside myself,
Cold, unfeeling, in a cold unfeeling world.

Summer Compilations

I’m a little tired of the stuff playing on my CD player in my car. So I’m trying to build some compilations/flavors. :-) Suggestions?

Unloosed

One day, I will be unloosed from this mortal coil.
Leaving behind this life of strife and toil
Gone, as gone can be…
But to where? Whence will I be gone?
Whether rich or poor, both powerful and powerless
Who can face death and not lose hope?

Breakfast by Newsboys

Hold the milk, put back the sugar
They are powerless to console
We’ve gathered here to sprinkle ashes
from our late friend’s cereal bowl.
Breakfast Clubbers, say the motto
that he taught us to repeat:
“You will lose it in your gym class
if you wait `til noon to eat.”

Back when the Chess Club said our eggs were soft
every Monday he’d say grace and hold our juice aloft
Oh, none of us knew his checkout time would come so soon
But before his brain stopped waving, he composed this tune:

Chorus
WHEN THE TOAST IS BURNED
AND ALL THE MILK HAS TURNED
AND CAPTAIN CRUNCH IS WAVING FAREWELL
WHEN THE BIG ONE FINDS YOU
MAY THIS SONG REMIND YOU
THAT THEY DON’T SERVE BREAKFAST IN HELL

Breakfast clubbers, drop the hankies.
Though to some our friend was odd,
that day he bought those pine pajamas
his check was good with God.

Those here without the Lord,
how do you cope?
For this morning we don’t mourn
like those who have no hope

Oh, rise up, Fruit Loop lovers -
sing out sweet & low
With spoons held high
we bid our brother, “Cheerio!”

- Chorus -

See You When I Get There by Coolio

Now I’ve seen places and faces
and things you ain’t never thought about thinking
if you ain’t peek then you must be drinking and smokin’
pretending that your locin’ but you’re brokin’
let me get you open
now little Timmy got his diploma and little Jimmy got life
and Tamika around the corner just took her first hit off the pipe
the other homie shot the other homie and ran off with his money
and when the other homies heard about it they thought that it was funny.
But who’s the dummy now you done lost the hustler
my down-ass brother gonna be replaced by a bustler
and though I got love for you I know I can’t trust you
coz my crew is rollin’ hummers and your crew is rollin’ dusters
and just because of that you act you don’t like the brother no more
I guess that’s just the way it goes
I ain’t tryin ta preach
I believe I can reach
but your mind ain’t prepared
I C U when you get there

Chorus:
I’ll see you when you get there
if you ever get there
see you when you get there
I’ll see you when you get there
if you ever get there
see you when you get there

Verse 2: -Lek Ratt- [40 Thevz]

More temptation than faith
I guess we livin’ for the day
I seen a man get swept off his feet
by a boy with an AK
the situation so twisted everybody gettin lifted
I’m just tryin to take care of my kids and handle my business
coz it way too serious so you gotta pay close attention
so you don’t get caught sittin’ when they come and do all the gettin’
life is a big game so you gotta play it with a big voice
some of us gotta run a little faster coz we gotta lay the struggle
I’d be a fool to surrender when I know I can be a contender
and if everybody’s a sinner then everybody could be a winner
no matter you rag colour deep down we all brothers
and regardless of the time somebody up there still love us
I’m a scuff and struggle till i’m breathless and weak
I just strived my whole life to make it to the mountain peak
always keep reachin’ sure to grab on to something
I’ll be there when you get there when you wit the sound pumpin’

(Chorus)

Verse 3: -PS- [40 Thevz]

You need to loosen up
and live a little
and if you got kids let them know how you feel
and for your own sake give a little
oh, you don’t want to hear that
you busy tryina stack
and keep them from the Jones’s is taking advantage of your own
the realist homies that you been knowin for the longest
but some ain’t missing a good thing until it’s gone
could have built an empire if not for the jealousy that divides us
we prefer to keep our eyes shut to describe when
it’s something wrong and we desire
so hold your head up high if your poor and righteous
aint no time seems right
the problems seem endless
but in times of despair we gotta pull ourselves together
and if you feel you’re out the game then you need to get back in it
coz nothing worse than a quitter
you gotta face responsibility one day, my brother
so gather up your pity and turn it to ambition
and put your vehicle in drive and stop by my side

(Chorus)

-Coolio-
As we walk down the road of our destiny
and the time comes to choose which shall it be
the wide and crooked or the straight and narrow
we got one push to give and one life to live
so stand up for something or lay down in your game
listen to the song that we sing
it’s up to you to make it be
I guess I’ll see you when you see me

Gravity by Vienna Teng

hey love
is that the name you’re meant to have
for me to call
look love
they’ve given up believing
they’ve turned aside our stories of the gentle fall

but don’t you believe them
don’t you drink their poison too
these are the scars that words have carved
on me

hey love
that’s the name we’ve long held back
from the core of truth

so don’t turn away now
I am turning in revolution
these are the scars that silence carved
on me

this is the same place
no not the same place
this is the same place, love
no not the same place we’ve been before

hey love
I am a constant satellite
of your blazing sun
my love
I obey your law of gravity
this is the fate you’ve carved on me

American Dream by Casting Crowns

All work no play may have made Jack a dull boy
But all work no God has left Jack with a lost soul
But he’s moving on full steam
He’s chasing the American dream
And he’s gonna give his family the finer things

Not this time son I’ve no time to waste
Maybe tomorrow we’ll have time to play
And then he slips into his new BMW
And drives farther and farther and farther away

‘Cause He works all day and tries to sleep at night
He says things will get better, better in time

So he works and he builds with his own two hands
And he pours all he has in a castle made with sand
But the wind and the rain are comin’ crashing in
Time will tell just how long his kingdom stands
His kingdom stands

His American Dream is beginning to seem
More and more like a nightmare
With every passing day
“Daddy, can you come to my game?”
“Oh Baby, please don’t work late.”
Another wasted weekend
And they are slipping away

‘Cause he works all day and lies awake at night
he tells them things will get better
It’ll just take a little more time

‘Cause he works and he builds with his own two hands
And he pours all he has in a castle made with sand
But the wind and the rain are comin’ crashing in
Time will tell just how long his kingdom stands
His kingdom stands

He used to say, “Whoever dies with the most toys wins”
But if he loses his soul, what has he gained in the end
I’ll take a shack on a rock
Over a castle in the sand

Now he works all day and cries alone at night
It’s not getting any better
Looks like he’s running out of time

‘Cause he worked and he built with his own two hands
And he poured all he had in a castle made with sand
But the wind and the rain are coming crashing in
Time will tell just how long his kingdom stands
His kingdom stands

All they really wanted was you

All they really wanted was you
